If you've ever had an encounter with mint in your garden, you may understand this story. A number of years ago, I had a small pot of mint growing on my back steps. The smell when I brushed past it was delightful. I enjoyed those scented leaves all summer and felt so fortunate to have ownership of such a splendid plant. The plant matured and in late summer it was covered with lovely lavender blooms.

When winter came, and it died back I was saddened to see its hibernation begin. As was expected, spring came again and there was my little mint plant, strong, vigorous, and apparently father and mother to many children. My entire backyard began to sprout lovely mint plants.
