This oil painting was inspired by one of my favorite places, the Dechutes River Trail in the Dechutes National Forest of Central Oregon. There are miles of trail that parallel the river where people hike, swim, fish, and bike in the summer months. In the winter snow covers the ground and snow shoeing becomes a common activity. It snows at night and then it is sunny during the daylight hours. Wildlife is abundant and people are friendly. It doesn't get much better for outdoor activities than this part of the Pacific Northwest. Although it doesn't fit my personal stereotype of a desert, it is often referred to as high desert. I assume this is because there is little rain compared to the damp coastal areas west of the Cascade Range.
Welcome to Nancy Merkle Fine Art and thank you for visiting. I am a visual artist living in the Pacific Northwest. My work has appeared in This Old House Magazine, Country Living Magazine, and has won many awards over the years. I explore various media including oils, acrylics, watercolor, inks, and digital tools. My subjects range from traditional to abstract and are inspired by light, color, and the world around me. My wish is for others to enjoy viewing my art as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
