This abstract painting celebrates the signature. In a time when young people can barely write their names and cursive writing is not taught in many elementary schools, the beauty of the signature needs to be celebrated. Pin codes, electronic signatures, and new technology are pushing the practice of calligraphy to extinction. Although this is not an actual signature, it is intended to capture the flow of ink and the movement of the human hand. Fonts in our word processors make each letter precise, but the touch of humanity in our everyday signatures is disappearing. Viewing the elaborate signatures of our forefathers and remembering the legacy of the famous John Hancock may be useful in encouraging everyone to practice their skills. There is beauty in a well-written signature.
